As a member of the medical department of a leading Swiss
phytopharmaceutical manufacturer, Silvia Bommer, M.D. brings a great
deal of specific knowledge to help people understand herbal medicine
and how to use it. Sylvia has training, certificates and practice
in phytotherapy, homeopathy, anthroposophical, and chinese medicine as
well as other types of complementary therapies like neuraltherapy,
reflexology, and nutrition. Sylvia works in complementary and
conventional practice as assistant and leading physician. |

Jan de Vries
Naturopath |

Jan de Vries graduated from pharmacy in 1958. He later studied
homeopathy in Germany and worked in China studying acupuncture. With
Dr. Vogel, Jan set up the first naturopathic clinic in Holland in 1960
and together they started the company Biohorma which imported herbal
and homeopathic medicines. Jan’s desire to study further has led
him to traveling around the world, living with natives in many
under-developed countries and studying herbal medicine in all its
various forms. Jan set up a clinic in Auchenkyle, Scotland. He
lectures extensively throughout Britain and is a regular guest on 16
national radio and television programs. Currently he has written
twenty books on a myriad of health problems, and writes for magazines
and newspapers. The Jan de Vries Benevolent Trust was founded in order
to help the less privileged have access to alternative medicine and to
help fund research. The recognition of his work has led to him
being given many honorary decorations one of which is the The Dag
Hammarskjold Award from the United Nations. He is presently involved in
research work for the EEC in proving the efficacy of complementary
medicine.

Dr Jen W Tan

Dr Jen W Tan trained as a doctor in the Medical School of the
University of Newcastle-on -Tyne, UK. Following graduation, Dr. Tan did
a series of medical rotations, concentrating primarily on the Cardiac
and Respiratory areas. He moved to an interest in Herbal Medicine
in 1990, joining Jan de Vries in his clinic. At the same time, he
became more involved in Bioforce (UK) Ltd, providing advice in the
areas of product information and regulatory affairs, including setting
up the GMP operation in Irvine. Dr. Tan conducted a number of research
projects involving complementary medicine within the 'National Health
Service' system. Currently, his research interests are centered around
the Clinical Trial Department that is being developed in Irvine. |

Lyle L. Leffler

Lyle Leffler graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and
Hydrotherapy in 1968. He continued his studies in Osteopathy,
Phytotherapy and Homeopathy at the Anglo-American Institute of Drugless
Therapy, graduating in 1970 with a Doctorate of Naturopathy. In 1975
Lyle Leffler founded the Natural Health Care Clinic situated in
Woodstock, Ontario. He has devoted his life to addressing
people’s health issues, applying the doctrine of Dr. Alfred
Vogel. In 1985, Natural Health Care had outgrown its facilities
and rebuilt a state of the art clinic which is now located at 312
Dundas Street, in Woodstock. |

Chanchal Cabrera

Chanchal Cabrera has been a member of the National Institute of Medical
Herbalists since 1987 and practices as a medical herbalist and clinical
aromatherapist. She is associate editor of Medical Herbalism
newsletter and serves on the board of advisors of Bastyr University and
Dominion Herbal College and the Board of Directors of Wellsprings
Centre for Natural Healing. She is the founder of a full service herbal
dispensary and clinic in Vancouver, British Columbia and was a member
of the federal Canadian Advisory Panel on Natural Health
Products. She is presently a member of the Expert Advisory
Committee of the Office of Natural Health Products. |

naturopathic medicine in the province of Quebec for the past eight
years, she specializes in pediatrics, hormonal and digestive
problems.Familiar with the effectiveness and reliability of

throughout her career.Her current activities include conducting
extensive lectures and workshops in the prevention of various health

Editor of the Herbs for Health Supplement in The Herb Companion,
Associate Editor for Herbalgram, the Business of Herbs, and the Journal
of Herbs, Spices, and Medicinal Plants. He is the author of eleven

Dr. Timothy Johns

Dr. Johns holds the title of Associate Professor of Human Nutrition at
McGill University. At McGill he teaches a course entitled Herbs, Foods
and Phytochemicals. He is the author of The Origins of Human Diet
and Medicine and co-author of Functionality of Food Phytochemicals and
Luo-English Biological Dictionary in addition to his publications in
scientific journals. He is director of the "Centre for Indigenous
People’s Nutrition" and the Environment (CINE). Dr. Johns is an
ethnobotanist whose research interests focus on the traditional uses of
plants for food and medicine in relation to issues of nutrition and
health.
