Prostate problems are common among men over the age of 50. Here is some practical, effective advice to protect your prostate. One out of every two men over the age
of 50 is familiar with the problems caused by an enlarged prostate
gland. This gland encloses the urethra at the exit of the bladder and
can increase in size following puberty. A prostate condition leads to a
constriction of the urethra which causes certain unpleasant
symptoms when urinating, such as an increased need to pass water
(including the need to urinate at night) , irregular, hesistant
urination and a feeling of not having fully emptied the bladder.
The fruit of the saw palmetto (Seronoa repens / Sabal serrulata) can
prove effective in combating this condition. This plant can improve the
flow of urine and prevent further enlargement of the prostate gland,
thus bringing relief from this condition, without side effects.
Regular exercise and vegetarian foods, raw fruit and vegetables,
soy products and pulses including linseed are useful in bringing
relief. Reduce your intake of animal fats and coffee since they are
both risk factors. Make sure you are taking sufficient vitamin A and
zinc. Cold temperatures and alcohol only serve to exacerbate the
symptoms. Make sure you keep the abdomen warm.
Test your prostate! The IPSS score (International Prostate Symptom
Score), recommended by the WHO, allows you to test your prostate.
