Bad Breath: causes, treatments and Prevention
Find out all you need to know about bad breath and how to combat those dreaded symptoms!
Bad breath, medically called halitosis, affects an estimated 25% of people, globally. It can result from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits.
Bad breath is a common problem that can affect anyone at any age.
What is bad breath
Bad Breath is not a disease, but the symptom of an underlying problem. There are several factors that can lead to bad breath: plaque build-up, cavities, gum disease, throat infection or digestive troubles. Oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist to remove any plaque build-ups are paramount.
Causes of bad breath
Coffee, alcohol, cigarette smoking, antibiotics, too much animal proteins or sugar can create an imbalance in the bacterial lining of the digestive tract. Such an occurrence impairs digestion and causes fermentation responsible for halitosis.
A liver problem can also lead to bad breath. Liver produces bile, with is a powerful antiseptic agent helps getting rid of fermentation.
Diet for bad breath
- Limit your intake of coffee, alcohol, animal protein and sugar
- Choose raw fruits and vegetables because they are rich in fibres and enzymes
- Fibres contribute to the health of friendly bacteria and act as a broom in the digestive tract, by carrying out unwanted residues. It supports the liver’s cleansing function.
- Enzymes partake in the digestion process and reduce fermentations
- Love your greens for their chlorophyll content (chlorophyll provides the green colour), which has an antiseptic action on the digestive tract and helps diminish fermentations.
If bad breath is caused by the liver malfunctioning:
- Half a lemon freshly squeezed in a cup of hot water every morning helps the liver to eliminate toxins.
- A small glass of fresh carrot juice daily also helps with good liver function.
Exercise for bad breath
An inactive lifestyle tends to slow down intestinal transit, which hinders the elimination of toxins from the liver. Walking is an excellent way to promote regularity. Deep breathing massages and oxygenates the liver.
Supplements for bad breath
Maintaining regular bowel movements will avoid fermentation. Molkosan is perfectly suited to help maintain regularity and favour good bacteria. It supports the proliferation of beneficial lactic bacteria and the elimination of harmful gut bacteria, including candida, which causes a lot of fermentation.
To activate the process of liver detoxification and thus improve breath, some herbals can be useful. Boldocynara is a unique complex containing artichoke, milk thistle, dandelion, boldo and peppermint. Those plants are very effective to stimulate bile production and toxin elimination. They also help with cell regeneration. Studies have shown milk thistle’s toning and healing effect on the liver.
N.B. People who have never done a liver detox should start with a reduced dosage, using the liquid formula, to avoid the discomforts linked to sudden cleansing (headache, diarrhea, nausea). In case of a severe or old liver problem, a long-term treatment of milk thistle could be beneficial. As a preventative measure, a seasonal course of Boldocynara can be done.
