Menopause and Hot Flashes
Hot flashes are a common symptom of the menopause experienced by 75% of menopausal women and can be described as a sudden feeling of warmth or heat in the body.
Hot flashes may occur on their own but are often accompanied by night sweats or excessive sweating during the day.
Hot flashes and sweats can also be accompanied by feelings of nausea, dizziness or a general feeling of being unwell.
There are other causes of hot flashes apart from the menopause. For example, men may sometimes experience the symptom but in general, when the term 'hot flash' is used, it refers to symptoms experienced by women going through the menopause.
Irritability and PMS
Irritability is perhaps the most common complaint reported by women in the days leading up to a period and can be part of the premenstrual syndrome.
It is one of the psychological symptoms of PMS and is associated with feelings of being under stress and higher anxiety levels during this time of the month.
Irritability may be manifested in a number of ways, from being a little bit more prickly to a tendency to become angry more easily. In general, these symptoms appear in the two weeks leading up to a period and ease once menstrual bleeding begins.
Feeling irritable can be a difficult symptom to cope with, not only because it tends to make you feel miserable, but also because it affects people around you.
Stress in and of itself is a positive thing. It’s our body’s way of reacting to physical and/or psychological aggression. In fact, our bodies are genetically programmed to set in motion this survival response when stimulated.
Rhodiola, the adaptogen herb
The adaptogen herb should stimulate the underaroused and calm the agitated; not an easy task for any medicine. Preparations usually energize or calm - but not both. Rhodiola has the ability to increase resistance to a variety of stresses - chemical, biological and physical.
A lot of people are under the impression that osteoporosis is mainly caused by a deficiency in dietary calcium and can easily be corrected by taking calcium supplements.
Recent researches clearly demonstrate that even with 1000 to 1500mg of calcium per day, bone density of the patients did not significantly change. The reason is simple: many factors affect the assimilation and fixation of calcium in the bones.
Vibrant hair, skin and nails
As different from each other as our hair, skin and nails may seem, they have very similar needs. They are all made of collagen, an element that is easily affected by the degree of acidity in the body. To maintain its health, collagen requires not only to be properly moisturised but also a vast array of nutrients. Here are key elements that can keep your skin, hair and nails healthy.
