Mackie I. Vadacchino, new CEO of Bioforce Canada, shares her views
by Mackie I. Vadacchino; MBA
Being of Italian origin meant that the use
of natural products, to help with ailments, were a part of my life. My
earliest memories are of my mother steeping chamomiles to soothe my
sore stomach. Fresh grown vegetables and home cooked meals were part
of who we were. But growing up in Canada in the ‘60s, this made us
odd, since this was the era of the processed foods bandwagon. Today I
thank God for those early lessons from my family.

elderly and those with weakened immune systems should avoid eating raw
or undercooked sprouts.
Indeed, these foods may carry
harmful bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli, which can lead to
serious illness. Many outbreaks of Salmonella and E. coli infections
have originated from contaminated sprouts.

This new tool is a lot more detailed than its
1992 version. The best improvement is the fact that the portions per
food group are now given by age group and by gender, making it more
