Historical overview
Seaweed is part of the diet of all people living close to the ocean. It represents a source of high quality nutrients. The relevance of seaweed resides mainly in its high mineral concentration (particularly iodine) and the high bioavailability of these minerals.
Actions and pharmacology
The prevalence of hypothyroidism in our society clearly shows the marked iodine deficiency in our diet. Despite the use of iodized salt (whose legitimacy is questionable), the number of people, mainly women, suffering from a slow thyroid function is constantly increasing. Kelpasan® is one of the few standardized sources of iodine on the market which, contrary to the mineral sources, insure an increased bioavailability.
Kelp is listed in the unapproved herbs section in the German Commission E for: regulation of thyroid function and goiter.(1)
