Historical overview
« Rasayana® » is a Sanskrit word meaning « repairer » or « restorer ». In Ayurvedic medicine, Rasayana®s are herb preparations meant to remedy imbalances and allow the return of health.
A.Vogels SOS Digestion Rasayana® is based on this same philosophy: to help the body heal itself by promoting waste and toxin elimination. Since the liver is the bodys first line of defence, it is also the first to suffer from the damaging effects of our lifestyle.
Problems related to fat digestion are not recent. Thermal cures, clysters (enemas) and all these treatments were created as answers to the needs of numerous engorged livers. Today, the range of dietary additives, trans fats and fried foods, not to mention the innumerable pollutants, put the hepatic function through a great strain.
Many therapeutic approaches recommend a liver drainage to people suffering from chronic disease or allergy or simply as prevention, twice a year.

Actions and pharmacology
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis)
Dandelion is a very interesting herb for the digestive system. Its root has cholagogue and depurative properties for the liver and it increases the bile flow. The bitter constituents, collectively called taraxacins (sometimes eudesmanolides), have a beneficial effect on slow digestion.
The German Commission E acknowledges its benefits in cases of: disturbances in bile flow, stimulation of diuresis, loss of appetite, and dyspepsia.
Boldo (Peumus boldus)
Boldo is a South American herb used to relieve intestinal cramps, bile flow problems and cystitis. Boldo has diuretic, sedative (antispasmodic), bile stimulant and antiseptic effects. Its main constituents are alkaloids (boldine and boldoglucine) and tannins, responsible for the digestive and liver stimulation, and a volatile oil, responsible for the antiseptic effect.
The German Commission E acknowledges its benefits in cases of: mild spastic complaints of the gastrointestinal tract and dyspepsia.
The synergy of these two herbs promotes a significant increase of biliary secretion without causing pain or cramps (like many depurative preparations do), thanks to boldos antispasmodic effect.
