Cough

Coughing is in fact, a fantastic cleaning system for the respiratory tract.

Normally, the numerous cilia in the upper respiratory tract remove mucus and “intruders” such as dust particles, sending them to the pharynx. But if something is pulled into the windpipe (such as a piece of food) or if too much mucus is produced, it triggers a cough reflex. With coughing, the air is pressed out with great force; up to 120-160 kilometres per hour! Coughing is one of the symptoms of the flu.
