Chocolate Orange Energy Balls

We’re all guilty of craving a sweet treat now and again, but with my Chocolate Orange Energy Balls, you won’t have to feel guilty anymore! Medjool dates, a superfood by any standard, provide all the sweetness you need. And as a bonus, the dates contain a bunch of other super-nutritious ingredients.

Ingredients

Chocolate Orange Energy Balls

  • 150g Medjool dates
  • Juice and zest of one orange
  • 1 tbsp pea / soy / hemp protein
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp of desiccated coconut
  • 1 tsp-1 tbsp agave syrup (optional, add to taste)

  • High in protein
  • A good source of healthy fats

High in vitamins and minerals including B complex vitamins, magnesium and vitamin C Medjool dates are extremely nutritious and boast a good fibre content as well as B vitamins and magnesium. Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain triglycerides, which are a healthy type of fat that the body can quickly use as an energy source. The orange juice, which is rich in vitamin C, is an important antioxidant.

How to make Chocolate Orange Energy Balls

1. Combine the dates, orange zest and juice, protein powder, cocoa powder, coconut oil and agave syrup in a food processor and chop until smooth.

2. Roll into small balls (makes around 12), and then roll the balls in the dried coconut.

3. Keep chilled in the fridge for up to five days.
