Can hives be dangerous?

Hives are typically caused by an allergic reaction to a substance but can also result from a non-allergic etiology such as emotional stress.

It can occur anywhere on the body and can present in all shapes and sizes. The duration of hives varies greatly – most will resolve within 24 hours but some may last for as long as six weeks. 

Ways to reduce hives:

Avoid hot water; use lukewarm water instead.

Use gentle, mild soap.

Apply cool compresses or wet cloths to the affected areas.

Try to work and sleep in a cool room.

Wear loose-fitting lightweight clothes.
